Director, Citizens Bank of Canada
Chief Operating Officer, Member Services, Vancity
As Chief Operating Officer of Member Services for Vancity, Rick Sielski has executive responsibility for the credit union's member-facing lines of business: branch-focused financial services, wealth management, small and medium-sized business, commercial mortgages, venture capital, Visa, foreign exchange and call centre divisions.
Joining the Citizens Bank of Canada Board of Directors in June 2012 was a natural fit due to the strategic and operational synergies between Member Services at Vancity and Citizens Bank. CB’s Visa, Commercial Mortgages, and Foreign Exchange businesses operate nationally and work to extend the impact of the credit union beyond the borders of British Columbia.
Rick started his financial services career in commercial banking, where the emphasis on personal relationships was paramount. Rick went onto a series of progressively senior roles, including District VP at TD Canada Trust; President & Chief Operating Officer of TD Waterhouse Private Investment Counsel; and VP, Regional Sales for Fidelity Investments.
Joining Vancity in 2007 as Senior Vice-President of Member Services, Rick’s well-honed discipline then extended beyond the single dimension of building shareholder value and into a more holistic approach that supports member and community well-being: “Good Money.”
Born and raised in Saskatoon, Rick has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan with a double major in finance and marketing. Rick is a Certified Financial Planner and Personal Financial Planner. He serves on several boards, including Credential Financial Inc.; Citizens Bank of Canada; and the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC.
Today, Rick and his family make their home in West Vancouver. In joining Vancity’s Marine Drive branch, one of the first things Rick appreciated was ease-of-access to a full spectrum of services in a genuine way that benefits both himself as a member as well as his community—a unique benefit of the credit union model. “My father has been a credit union member all his life,” says Rick. “Everything comes full circle.
About Citizens Bank
Citizens Bank was formed by Vancity in 1997 as a national bank that would take the largest credit union in Canada beyond the borders of B.C. We were the first and we’re still the only bank with a clear ethical policy. In April 2008, we became the first North American-based bank to be carbon neutral, which means that the CO2 emissions we create are now equal to the emissions we have reduced or offset elsewhere. We achieved this goal through a rigorous emissions reduction program focusing on energy use, staff travel, paper consumption and waste.
